Karlín is literally formed of streets full of bars, bistros, cafes and restaurants and people who are not afraid to live life to the full.
Veltlin
Veltlin winery is such an authentic place located at the heart of Karlin, offering delicious natural wines from the former Habsburg monarchy territory. The winery does not have a regular wine menu, they only have a seasonal one full of tasty wines supplied from local wineries which the owners personally know and thus can guarantee the highest quality possible. Nonetheless, you certainly do not need to worry that you would not find the wines you enjoy! The menu always comprises of dry as well as sweet, white as well as red or rose wines. We recommend to try their cheese or salami plates on the side – we tried the one with cheese variations and we truly enjoyed it!
Woker bistro
Woker bistro is an Asian restaurant located close to the tram stop Urxova. They offer a delicious Asian cuisine in the form of sushi, daily as well as the regular menu. Personally, we only tried their sushi which was delicious. Nevertheless, we also heard great reviews of local soups and main courses. The restaurant itself is very cosy, you can sit outside as well as inside and, if you are in a hurry, you can get use of their takeout window „Woker to-go“ located right next to the restaurant itself. There is also a possibility to throw a family gathering or a company party.
Dhaba Beas
If you enjoy healthy vegan and vegetarian dishes then we certainly recommend you to drop by Dhaba Beas restaurants. Dhaba Beas restaurants are located in many places in Prague, including two at Krizikova tram stop, very close to your home. They offer delicious vegan and vegetarian food which weight as well as combinations you can choose yourself thanks to the self-serve concept. Moreover, you will always find here some appetizers, main dishes as well as something sweet. Another benefit is certainly the very low prices, this place is really worth the price! Additionally, they often offer a discount for take-away in the evening to minimise food waste.
Ugo Salatérie
Do you enjoy smoothies and vegetable or fruit freshes? Then you probably already know Ugo salad bar which is nowadays located in many places in Prague. One of those places is Karlin, directly at the Krizikova metro stop. They offer delicious smoothies and freshes made out of many different kinds of fruits or veggies. Moreover, you can also stop by for a salad or soup, affordable lunch menu or coffee and something sweet on the side. Additionally, this place offers great takeaway opportunities – such as morning yoghurt with granola or a lunch wrap.
Sanduga
Sanduga is an Asian restaurant located right on the Karlin square. It is a high-class restaurant with a beautiful interior as well as outside seating. The prices of the dishes served are rather high but every day, you will also find a daily offer there which we certainly recommend trying. The daily offer always comprises of sushi as well as soups and main courses. We tried California sushi roll, vegetable cream and a rib-eye steak and we enjoyed it a lot. Sanduga is also a great place to throw a family gathering or a company party.
Ngo restaurant
If you are searching for a restaurant serving delicious south-Asian cuisine, then you should definitely stop by Ngô restaurant located on the Karlin square. The menu of this place is pretty modest compared to other Asian restaurants or bistros but no matter what you choose to get, you will not regret your choice. We tried passion-fruit lemonade and our beloved Pad Thai with shrimps and wok-tossed veggies with tofu and sweet potato fries on the side. Both dishes were certainly one of the best Asian dishes we have ever eaten. The place itself is very cosy, you can sit outside as well as inside. Moreover, the restaurant is pretty big, so it is a great place to throw a party or a gathering.
Loft
Attention please, all coffee lovers: there is a perfect espresso bar serving specialty coffee only 15 minutes’ walk from your homes – Loft! Beside perfect coffee they also offer delicious desserts and other beverages. And that aren’t the only things Loft can offer. It also has a beautiful and cosy interior, which make it an ideal place to work or study, or just to relax with a favourite book. They also serve several breakfast dishes, high quality wines or homemade lemonades.
Café Frida
Coffee, desserts, authentic Mexican cuisine, breakfast or beer from Únětice brewery – all of this can be found in Café Frida in Karlín, named by famous artist Frida Kahlo. The atmosphere is very cosy and calm, staff is always very nice and smiling and prices are highly affordable. It’s an ideal place where to go if you just want to enjoy your coffee, have a breakfast (you can also try a special breakfast burrito), lunch (they prepare different lunch menu everyday) or a beer from the favourite Czech Brewery in Únětice.
Banh mi ba
Perfect bistro for all Asian cuisine lovers, that is Banh Mi Ba! You can find it on five places all over Prague – one of them being close to your homes in Karlín! One of our favourite Vietnamese dishes is a noodle salad with beef called Bun Bo Nam Bo and we believe that they serve one of the best ones in Prague. We also recommend trying fresh summer rolls, which come with delicious peanut sauce or their special dish called Mien Ga Tom – glass noodles with chicken and shrimps. Of course, they also offer Pho soups or traditional Vietnamese baguettes Banh Mi!
Kafe Karlín
„Before heading off to work, stop by for a coffee“! A great slogan which truly captures the vibe of Kafe Karlín café. The café is more of a take out place rather than a place where you go to sit with your friends or to work as there are not seatings available. Nevertheless, if the weather allows you can sit on a bench right outside of the café. Kafe Karlín offers speciality coffee which you can definitely tell as the taste of their coffee is just delicious. We highly recommend trying their cappuccino as we enjoyed it a lot. Moreover, you will also find fresh cakes & pastry there. Additionally, you can also buy the packed coffee there so that you can prepare it at home if you wish so. The last benefit is the great location of this place – you will find it right at the Karlinske namesti tram stop!
Bistro Na Pokec
Newly opened bistro Na pokec is a cosy place in the heart of Karlín. They have a great daily offer, homemade lemonades, coffee, wine, beer or drinks. They also serve breakfast (until 11 o’clock, so you can oversleep a bit) and bigger as well as smaller dishes and some sweet desserts. You can find meat, vegetarian and also vegan dishes in the menu. We personally recommend trying their hummus with sundried tomatoes & pita bread and superb homemade lemonades! We tried blueberry, lime and lemon and they were perfect. Interior of this bistro is modern, spacious and full of plants. Fun fact about this bistro is a huge blackboard, where you can vote for your favourite dish from the menu!
EMA espresso bar
Ema is surely one of the best cafés you can find in Prague, that being especially due to its delicious speciality coffee. The most popular branch of this coffee chain is surely the one located in Florenc, right next to the Masaryk‘s railway station. Nevertheless, recently Ema opened also in Karlín and that right on the Križíkova metro stop. The café is located in Thámova street but watch out! To enter the café, you actually have to come from Křižíkova street. Apart from delicious coffee we also recommend trying their fresh bread which they get from their famous bakery called Alf&Bet. Moreover, you should try their local pastry, pies and cakes or also their famous „linecké srdíčko“.
Yolo Karlín
In the Butterfly office complex you will find a number of great bistros and cafes – one of them is also a bistro called YOLO. They offer breakfast, several á la carte dishes (such as a poke bowl, a delicious pad thai or a burger!) and you can also enjoy a lunch from a daily menu every day. Above that, Yolo is a great place to go for a hookah and a drink in the evening – they are open every day, including weekends, until 11 pm. The interior is nice and very cozy, so you will definitely feel good. On warm days you can also sit in the open garden in front of the bistro. There is a DJ playing every Thursday and also happy hours offers. And for beer lovers they have beer from the Zichovec small brewery!
Bistro Polévkárna
Polévkárna bistro located on Sokolovská street is such a great place to get a quick lunch during the week. You will always find a few soups on the menu, from the broth to the creamy ones. Moreover, you can also get something to eat there. Very popular are their focaccias and Chacapuris with cheese or spinach, which we certainly recommend trying. You can sit outside as well as inside however, we would recommend coming after or before the main lunchtime as this place is pretty popular and thus, often full.
Avocado Gang
We have visited for you another famous place in Karlín – the Avocado Gang. Avocado has become a big hit in recent years. No wonder, given its health benefits. We visited the restaurant to have a breakfast. The restaurant offers both savoury and sweet meals. We tried one savoury and one sweet variant. Both were excellent. A great start to the day together with Hugo Spritz. Starting from 11:30 a.m., you can then enjoy the lunch menu. The restaurant offers its popular super bowl, as well as a burger, rice sandwich, shrimp salad, and lots of other dishes worth tasting. The offer of drinks is also wide – would you fancy an excellent smoothie, coffee, tea, wine, spirits or beer? The Avocado Gang will be happy to serve you all of these both in the pleasant garden and in the cosy interior. The staff is very helpful and the kitchen is open, so don't forget to drop by. You will definitely not regret it.
Pivo Karlín
Pivo Karlín is a beautiful small brewery and restaurant in a modern office building Butterfly in Karlín. They have beers from their own brewery – you can try for example wheat beer, IPA, APA or Karlín 11. We had wheat beer and Karlín 11 and both were delicious – small breweries simply great. We recommend it especially for those of you who also love wheat beer, which can’t be found in most pubs in Prague. Beside beer, Pivo Karlín also has a wide range of dishes. We tried a vegetarian tortilla and a salad with goat cheese, however, meat lovers will definitely enjoy themselves, as the restaurant is famous not only for beer, but also for great meat dishes – burgers, steaks and more! You can also come here everyday for a great lunch offer. The staff was very attentive in Pivo Karlín and the overall atmosphere was simply just as it’s supposed to be.
Ô-mai coffee
Ô-mai coffee is a famous Vietnameese coffee located in Karlín, right at Urxova station. The café offers great brunches and delicious coffee. We tried their very tasty oatmeal served with caramelized pear, and an avotoast and we enjoyed both very much! For drinks we got their cappuccino with oat milk. Not only did it look amazing but it also tasted just delicious. The café is also famous for their pancakes and traditional Israeli shakshuka. The interior of the café is cosy and the staff is very friendly and observant.
Nejen Bistro
Visiting Nejen Bistro in Karlín is a pure gourmet experience. It’s a modern bistro with a beautiful interior (open kitchen, large windows, flowers…) and top chef Petr Brňák, who has many years of experience from great Czech and foreign restaurants. He creates great and original combinations of flavors, that are just one of a kind. In addition, the menu changes quite often - they prepare meals from seasonal ingredients, so you won't get tired of visiting the bistro. You can always try something new! In Nejen Bistro they serve great beer from the Dalešice mini-brewery, they also offer a variety of wines from small vineyards and lemonades. We definitely recommend to pay a visit, because it really is a great experience!
Café Parlor
Parlor café is in our opinion one of the must go places in Karlín. Although its location is quite far from your residence, it is surely worth visiting. Moreover, a very enjoyable walk through Karlín streets will make you quite hungry which you will surely appreciate when trying out their delicious foods. This bistro / café offers pretty much everything you need - in the morning you can stop by for a great brunch, later during the day for a coffee and in the evening you can enjoy a glass of wine with some snacks. Nevertheless, what you surely cannot miss are their ice-cream sandwiches as Parlor café is the only place in the Czech Republic where you can get them! You can choose out of three cookies and multiple ice-cream and sorbet flavours. We also recommend trying their cakes as thanks to those the café scored as a first in our list of top cakes in Prague!
Restaurant Podolka
Restaurant with original interior design and a menu full of healthy dishes – that’s Podolka in Karlín and Podolí! Podolka is suitable for vegetarians, glutenfree dieters as well as meat lovers! We even dare to say that this is one of the best restaurants for individuals with a gluten-free diet, which can be found in Prague. We recommend to try a popular Hawaiian dish Poke bowl or healthy zucchini noodles „zoodles“! Apart from those you can also try their burgers – in both meat or veggie variants. Don’t forget to try a homemade lemonade and just enjoy the beauty of this place.
Bistro StreetPHO
StreetPho is a Vietnamese bistro right in the heart of Karlín – you can try not only the classic Vietnamese dishes such as Pho soup, noodle salad Bun Bo Nam Bo, Nem Cuon rolls or Banh Mi baguettes, but also for example a special Asian burger or chicken satay with peanut sauce. If you consider yourself a Pho lover, StreetPho is definitely something for you – beside the classic type with beef, they also serve it with chicken or with tofu for vegetarians. They are closed on weekends, but you can enjoy all the Vietnamese dishes on weekdays until 9pm.
Café Etapa
If you are looking for a cosy café right at the heart of Karlín, then the newly opened Etapa café is the right place for you! Already when you step in the café, you will be amazed by its warm interior, full of room plants and flowers. We chose to get the coffee we always get – our beloved cappuccino, one with soja milk and the other with normal diary milk. Apart from delicious coffee you can also get a breakfast of brunch there – especially their famous sourdough bread served with homemade spreads is worth trying. You should also try out their homemade cakes and pastry – we tried quite extra-ordinary cardamom pastry. Etapa is an ideal place also for those of you who are vegans or gluten intolerant – everyone will simply find something for themselves there. The staff is really nice and friendly too. To sum up, Etapa is such an amazing place! The only thing which you should be cautious about is its pretty short opening times – the longest the café is opened is only till 4 PM.
Restaurant YAM YAM
In case that you consider yourself an Asian cuisine lover you’ve probably already heard of Yam Yam restaurant. Yam Yam is known mainly for their perfect curry, noodles and soups – if you’re a fan of spicy food you’ll definitely love it (but no worries, they also serve non spicy dishes). Yam Yam can be found on four different places in Prague – lucky you, one is also in Karlín, which means you’re only 15-minute walk away from a bit of exoticism. We personally recommend their signature noodles Classy Yam Yam, curry or popular Vietnamese noodle salad Bun Bo Nam Bo. Beside delicious food you can also get a great homemade lemonade – elderberry with blueberries is absolutely recommended!
Restaurant Spojka Karlín
Spojka restaurant in Karlín is a great addition to the restaurants in Prague 8. This place was opened quite recently but thanks to its outstanding philosophy (“Food connects us”), delicious food made of high quality ingredients, amazing interior full of plants and amazing atmosphere, it is already pretty successful. The quality of ingredients as well as the combination of tastes forming one great dish is a must there. In their menu you can find many extraordinary vegetarian as well as meat based combinations. Moreover, during the work week you can always find here a lunch menu, which we tried during our visit. We got an amazing salad with duck breast and hummus with grilled vegetable and pitta bread and really - we haven't tried better hummus in Prague yet. The restaurant also offers breakfast and brunch menu and coffee & cakes. During your visit you will also be amazed by the beautiful interior full of plants and very friendly staff.
Bistro Proti Proudu
Another great place in Karlín is definitely Bistro Proti Proudu. Although it is not a café but a bistro, it can be proud of its truly delicious coffee. Well, when you get a coffee, it is a good idea to get something sweet on the side. The bistro is perfectly prepared for this by offering many delicious cakes and pastry. We tried delicious chocolate cake, which is surely one of the best chocolate cakes we have ever tried in Prague. However, as it is still a bistro, you can also get a lunch or dinner there. We also recommend trying their famous breakfast offer, which they offer all day long! Moreover, the place itself is really big and clean while having beautifully designed interior.
Beer bar Diego
Ideal place for all beer lovers – why? Because they have six beers on tap in the Diego beer bar in Karlín! They rotate the types of beers served, so you can basically try a new one on every visit – different beers from small Czech breweries, which are definitely worth trying and we also dare to say that they may not be found in many places in Prague. Prices are affordable, but you should be aware that it’s not possible to pay by card. Diego is in Mexican style, so you can also taste some authentic Mexican dishes, such as quesadillas, tacos, marinated ribs or also mezcal. We would personally recommend to try their quesadillas and sweet potato fries (and of course beer)!
